Position Summary/ Objective

Under the guidance of the Vice President of International Operations, the Director of Advocacy and Philanthropic Partnerships will generate, manage, and support strategic in-country/regional relationships with core funders and new partners to advance IFAW’s strategic mission. In support of IFAW worldwide philanthropy strategy and fundraising objectives, the Director will be accountable for raising the visibility of IFAW among institutional funders, trusts, and high income/net-worth individuals and cultivating those relationships which will aid philanthropy staff with prospect development.

 

This position will focus on identifying and delivering on opportunities for growth for IFAW in the Netherlands, Belgium and Europe working closely with the VP of Programmes, VP of Development and other strategic leaders. This role oversees the business development, coordination and delivery of strategic partnerships and advocacy efforts in the above markets, with a focus on policy and corporate engagement.

 

Role and Responsibilities

·       Lead and increase philanthropic revenue opportunities from governmental agencies, foundations, corporations. Build and maintain a rich pipeline of                potential philanthropic opportunities that are of mission value to IFAW. 

·       Lead Advocacy efforts nationally in support of policy and fundraising objectives.

·       Represent IFAW to decision-makers, the public, media representatives, outside organizations, and other key opinion leaders

·       Provide technical expertise on all relevant policy and advocacy issues, supporting and mentoring regional campaigners to advocate for policies that                  advance IFAW’s institutional goals.

·       Research, identify, evaluate, prioritize, negotiate, and facilitate execution of transactions with corporate partnerships and other commercial partnership          to support strategic initiatives.

·       Work closely with external and internal stakeholders, including senior leaders, program leads, legal, development, communications, and operations to              ensure internal alignment of opportunities.

·       Work directly with programs, legal, and cross functional teams to assess, propose, and align on contractual terms.

·       Utilize financial modeling to help inform program impact against philanthropic benefit.

·       Develop key performance indicators of potential opportunities including synergy, program differentiation, cost, staffing needs, scalability, and other                  indicators to quantify and prioritize opportunities.

·       Conduct due diligence and develop a framework for effective comparison and prioritization of various opportunities.

·       Maintain a clear and complete database of key contacts, policy shifts, and funding opportunities.

·       Prepare concept notes, briefing notes, and funding proposals. Prepare annual reporting on fundraising activities and successful partnerships.

·       Provide support to Programmatic leaders on opportunities and outreach to key partners.

 

Qualifications and Education Requirements

·       Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in Conservation Biology, Natural Resources, Public Policy, Law, or related discipline preferred. Advanced                    degree ideal.

·       5+ years experience working in the humanitarian and/or conservation NGO sector.

·       Existing network of contacts in fundraising and/or Belgian – Dutch Policy environment.

·       Experience working with diverse audiences and stakeholders to advance conservation programs and priorities.

·       An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed                above.

·       Highly organized, motivated, self-starting, and detail oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

·       Drive and initiative to create change and innovate.

·       Strategic thinker and persuasive communicator.

·       Skilled communicator both verbally and in writing, required in English and Dutch. Knowledge of French a plus.

·       Proficient with financial modeling tools.

·       Mission-driven with a passion for IFAW’s mission.

·       Willingness to travel as necessary.
